माँ स्कंदमाताMaa Skandamata
माँ स्कंदमाता नवदुर्गा का पाँचवाँ स्वरूप हैं। वे भगवान स्कंद, अर्थात् कार्तिकेय की माता हैं, इसलिए स्कंदमाता कहलाती हैं। नवरात्रि के पाँचवें दिन उनकी पूजा करने से माँ के साथ-साथ उनकी गोद में विराजमान बाल स्कंद की पूजा भी अपने आप हो जाती है।Maa Skandamata is the fifth form of Navdurga. She is the mother of Lord Skanda, also known as Kartikeya, and is therefore called Skandamata. Worshipping her on the fifth day of Navratri also brings the worship of the infant Skanda seated on her lap.

माँ स्कंदमाता की चार भुजाएँ हैं। वे अपनी दाहिनी ओर की ऊपरी भुजा से बाल स्कंद को गोद में पकड़े हुए हैं, और दाहिनी निचली भुजा तथा बाईं ऊपरी भुजा में कमल का फूल धारण करती हैं। उनकी बाईं निचली भुजा वरमुद्रा में है, जिससे वे भक्तों को आशीर्वाद देती हैं। उनका वर्ण पूर्णतः शुभ्र (उज्ज्वल) है और वे कमल के आसन पर विराजमान रहती हैं, इसलिए उन्हें पद्मासना देवी भी कहा जाता है। उनका वाहन सिंह है।Maa Skandamata has four arms. With her upper right arm she holds the infant Skanda on her lap, and in her lower right and upper left hands she holds lotus flowers. Her lower left hand is in the varada mudra, blessing her devotees. Her complexion is bright and pure, and she is seated on a lotus, which is why she is also called Padmasana Devi. Her mount is the lion.

कथाThe story
माँ स्कंदमाता की कथाThe story of Maa Skandamata
पुराणों के अनुसार, तारकासुर नाम के असुर ने कठोर तपस्या करके ब्रह्मा जी से यह वरदान पाया कि उसकी मृत्यु केवल भगवान शिव के पुत्र के हाथों हो। उसे विश्वास था कि वैराग्य में लीन शिव कभी विवाह नहीं करेंगे। वरदान पाकर वह देवताओं और तीनों लोकों पर अत्याचार करने लगा।
तब माता पार्वती ने तपस्या करके भगवान शिव से विवाह किया और उनके पुत्र स्कंद (कार्तिकेय) का जन्म हुआ। स्कंद देवताओं के सेनापति बने और उन्होंने युद्ध में तारकासुर का वध करके देवताओं को भय से मुक्त किया।
स्कंद की माता होने के कारण माँ पार्वती का यह स्वरूप स्कंदमाता कहलाया। वे मातृत्व, वात्सल्य और करुणा की प्रतीक हैं, और अपने भक्तों की रक्षा उसी प्रेम से करती हैं जैसे एक माँ अपनी संतान की करती है।
According to the Puranas, the demon Tarakasura performed severe penance and obtained a boon from Lord Brahma that he could be killed only by a son of Lord Shiva. He believed that Shiva, absorbed in detachment, would never marry. Empowered by the boon, he began to torment the gods and the three worlds.
Mother Parvati then performed penance and married Lord Shiva, and their son Skanda (Kartikeya) was born. Skanda became the commander of the gods' army, slew Tarakasura in battle and freed the gods from fear.
As the mother of Skanda, this form of Mother Parvati is called Skandamata. She is the embodiment of motherhood, tender affection and compassion, and she protects her devotees with the same love a mother has for her child.

प्रातः स्नान और संकल्पEarly bath and sankalp
सुबह जल्दी स्नान करें और सफेद या पीले वस्त्र पहनें। हाथ में जल, अक्षत और फूल लेकर माँ स्कंदमाता की पूजा का संकल्प लें।Bathe early in the morning and wear white or yellow clothes. Holding water, akshat and a flower, take a sankalp for Maa Skandamata's puja.

कलश और अखंड ज्योतिKalash and akhand jyoti
कलश को प्रणाम करें, जवारों को जल दें और अखंड ज्योति में घी या तेल डालकर उसे प्रज्वलित रखें।Bow to the kalash, water the jaware and top up the akhand jyoti with ghee or oil to keep it burning.

पहले श्री गणेश का ध्यान करें। आज माँ के साथ उनके पुत्र भगवान कार्तिकेय का भी स्मरण करें।First meditate on Shri Ganesh. Today, along with the Mother, also remember her son, Lord Kartikeya.

माँ स्कंदमाता की प्रतिमा या चित्र पर गंगाजल छिड़कें। रोली, कुमकुम, अक्षत, चंदन और श्रृंगार की वस्तुएँ अर्पित करें।Sprinkle Gangajal on Maa Skandamata's idol or picture. Offer roli, kumkum, akshat, sandalwood paste and items of adornment.

माँ को पीले फूल चढ़ाएँ; कमल का फूल मिले तो अवश्य अर्पित करें, क्योंकि वे कमल पर विराजती हैं।Offer yellow flowers to the Mother; if a lotus is available, be sure to offer it, as she is seated on a lotus.

माँ स्कंदमाता को केले का भोग लगाएँ। साथ में खीर या अन्य सात्विक मिठाई भी अर्पित कर सकते हैं।Offer bananas to Maa Skandamata as bhog. You may also offer kheer or other sattvic sweets.

'ॐ देवी स्कन्दमातायै नमः' का 108 बार जाप करें। ध्यान श्लोक पढ़ें और संभव हो तो दुर्गा सप्तशती का पाठ करें।Chant 'Om Devi Skandamatayai Namah' 108 times. Recite her dhyan shloka and, if possible, read the Durga Saptashati.

घी के दीपक और कपूर से माँ स्कंदमाता की आरती करें। अंत में पूजा में हुई भूलों के लिए हाथ जोड़कर क्षमा प्रार्थना करें।Perform Maa Skandamata's aarti with a ghee lamp and camphor. End with folded hands, offering the kshama prarthana for any mistakes in the puja.
